Wegovy is the semaglutide product approved for chronic weight management. It is dosed once weekly and titrated from 0.25mg up to 2.4mg. At list price it ran roughly $1,349 per month as of September 2026, the same at every strength, so your brand list cost does not rise as your dose rises.
Through NovoCare Pharmacy, the manufacturer's self-pay channel, it ran around $499 per month over the same period. You need a valid prescription, and you generally cannot run an insurance claim alongside self-pay pricing. With insurance that covers it, the manufacturer savings offer can bring the cost to $0 to $25. The catch is coverage: many employer plans exclude weight management medication outright.
One factor that changes the odds: Wegovy carries an indication for reducing cardiovascular risk in adults with established cardiovascular disease who also have overweight or obesity. Some plans that exclude weight management medication will still cover it under that indication, so ask your plan directly. Our guide to what insurance covers sets out how to ask.
Ozempic is semaglutide approved for type 2 diabetes, not for weight management. Its list price was roughly $998 per month as of September 2026, and NovoCare Pharmacy priced it around $499 on the self-pay channel. It is generally far easier to get covered than Wegovy, because plans covering diabetes medication usually cover it without the weight management exclusion applying.
If you do not have type 2 diabetes, Ozempic is not the appropriate product, and a prescriber should not be writing it for you on cost grounds. Society lists Ozempic from $1,399 per month for its approved type 2 diabetes use. If weight management is what you are here for, the semaglutide route at Society is compounded semaglutide from $149 per month or brand Wegovy from $1,695 per month, and a clinician decides which, if either, is appropriate.
